Living in Punta Cana Year-Round: Pros and Cons.

Living in Punta Cana sounds like a dream for many: paradise beaches, sunshine all year, a relaxed pace of life…
But is it really like that when you live here 12 months a year?
Today I’ll share the real pros and cons, based on my experience and my clients’.

I’m Jordi Albertus, a real estate advisor in the Dominican Republic for more than 17 years.
I’ve guided families and professionals who decided to move here, and I’ve seen the good… and the not-so-good.
Let’s break it down.

1️⃣ Pros of living in Punta Cana year-round

  • Warm weather all 12 months—ideal if you love the sun.
  • Crystal-clear beaches just minutes from home.
  • Diverse international community: people from all over the world live here.
  • Relaxed lifestyle and less stress than big cities.
  • Lower cost of living than many cities in the U.S., Canada, or Europe.

2️⃣ Cons of living in Punta Cana year-round

  • Heat and humidity can be intense in summer, especially July to September.
  • Tourism dependence: much of the economy and services revolve around it.
  • Public services can be limited in some areas.
  • Smaller cultural and entertainment offering than major cities.

3️⃣ Real examples
A client who moved from New York told me he found peace here, more family time, and a very friendly community.
Meanwhile, another client from Madrid moved back to Spain after a year because he missed urban life and being close to family.

4️⃣ Tips to adapt
If you decide to live here, I recommend:

  • Choosing an area with solid infrastructure, such as Punta Cana Village, Cocotal Golf, or Vista Cana—all gated communities.
  • Having a plan for the hottest months.
  • Connecting with expat communities to integrate quickly.

Conclusion
Living in Punta Cana year-round can be a wonderful experience if you’re prepared for what it entails.
It’s not endless vacation—it’s a different lifestyle.

In the next episode, we’ll talk about how to resell your property in Punta Cana without losing money in the process.
